LOCATION SCOUTING IN RUSSIA

Our locations scouts in Irkutsk, Yakutsk, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk and Altai region are ready to start searching for the locations that would be a great fit for your project.

Our location library contains hundreds of locations that are spread throughout the country. We can help you getting access to unique locations such as:

  • huge abandoned factories
  • remains of GULAG camps
  • shaman places
  • nomad reindeer herder tribes
  • extinct mines in Siberia

We can provide you prompt and informative answers from remote Russian regions.

We will gladly answer your questions about the available locations throughout Siberia, in Moscow or in Saint Petersburg.

After carefully analyzing your request we will send you a list of permits needed for the realization of your project. Based on the quantity of filming days, size of the film crew, logistics complexity and type of the film project — we will send the information regarding the prices for filming location. For large scale projects our fixers can travel on location for making a complete report on the area and send you up to date photos of the locations that fit to your filming needs.

Russia has an incredible potential for filming in the wild:

  • breathtaking views
  • places accessible only via winter roads
  • nature reserves
  • tribes that keep their traditional way of living
  • and many more amazing things

Despite the complexity of the logistics (some places are available only on hovercrafts or on helicopters, accessible only during winter, etc.) you can find unique locations and get incredible footage.

Our location scouting report will include the recommendations on accommodation and transport in the area.

Filming in bigger cities with our production company is also possible. We provide fixer and production seervices in St Petersburg and Moscow cooperating with our partner production company FilmspbTV. Our location library includes mansions, palaces, museums, restaurants, castles, etc.

Please let us know what exactly you plan to film and we’ll start working on your project in the next few hours!

Locations available for filming in Siberia

  • Lake baikal — huge waterbody that freezes in winter time, allowing to build a winter road over the ice to get driving access to the Olkhon Island
  • Olkhon Island — an island in the middle of Lake Baikal, a powerful place for covering shaman prectices and nature filming.
  • Buryatia region — situated between the lake Baikal and the border Russia shares with Mongolia, this region has amazing landscapes, multiple buddist monasteries, national reserves, several spots for hardcore off road driving.
  • Yakutia region. One of the coldest places on earth — the town Oymiyakon is situated here. In this region you also can find diamond mines, natural wonders like the Lena Pillars, winter roads that are built over the frozen ice. Cool activities that can be filmed here include visiting reindeer herders, riding dog sledges, blowing boiling water with ultra low temperatures and freeze all kinds of food for viral videos. Did you know that with -30C a banana is still somehow flexible, while an orange becomes extra fragile?
  • Altai region is famous through it’s amazing nature and incredible landscapes.  Mountain lakes with snowy peaks at the background, alpine valleys, meadows and conifer forests. Also some important places for human history are situated in the area — Denisova cave and some other archeological sites.
  • Novosibirsk region. We recommend visiting the Institute of Cytology and Genetics for covering the experiment that keeps doing on for over 50 years — the process of creation of tamed foxes via selecting the less agressive ones from the litter.
  • Yamal region is perfect for covering sotries about nomadic reindeer herding tribes, climate change stories and amazing landscapes that are beyond the polar circle.
  • Vladivostok region — the russian far east. A great city that in some parts resembles NY of the 20s and 30s of the XX century. In the region you can organize a filming at natural reserves where tigers and leopards live and freely walk between Russia and China.
  • Yekaterinburg region — the biggest city at the Ural mountains offers many filming possibilities. It has a good variety of filming equipment available. In the region you can find log houses that are almos 500 years old, steel factories of the late XIX century that are now converted into mueums and a lot of gemstone mines.
  • The Transsiberian railroad. A world-famous train itinerary that is over 9000 km long and allows travelling from Vladivostok to Moscow. Great for a travel show or for telling a story about Siberia.
  • BAM railroad. Built as a strategic alternative to the Trans-Siberian railroad through unaccessible parts of Chita region, Irkutsk region and Buryatia. Perfect for any survival project or project about wild nature.
  • GULAG camp leftovers. Scary parts of the Soviet heritage that can work great for a historical project.
  • The Polar Circle and beyond. Murmansk region with its famous polar day during summer time and multiple chances to film the Aurora Borealis during winter, Yamal peninsula with its numerous reindeer herders. Arkhangelsk — a famous old Russian city with many interesting wooden buildings surrounded by endless wetlands.
